We seek to empower and train marginalized communities to have a voice about the policy decisions that affect them most. We envision the individual power of people combined with the collective power of the sector, to help create more healthy and just communities for all.

Community Resource Center’s mission is to create opportunities, tools and strategies to develop nonprofits and community groups to strengthen Colorado. We provide a continuum of services throughout the entire state of Colorado that develop leadership, convene communities and provide critical resources to nonprofits doing life-changing and life-saving work.

The Participation Project and Root Causes Network are programs of Community Resource Center (CRC). The Participation Project (PP) provides guidance, training, and support to human service nonprofits in their nonpartisan civic engagement efforts. The PP has grown into a network of more than 40 service providers statewide who together serve nearly one million low-income Coloradans. All populations represented are low-income, and many come from other traditionally marginalized communities, including communities of color, immigrants and refugees, LBGTQ+ communities, and single mothers. Through this program, the Participation Project provides the necessary support for human service nonprofits to offer nonpartisan voter engagement efforts to their clients and communities through voter registration, Pledge to Vote, and Get Out the Vote activities

The Root Causes Network provides a permanent infrastructure to build the capacity of service providers to advance inclusive and community-centered policy. The Network creates formal and ongoing space for members to convene, and advance their skills and knowledge. When mobilized, nonprofits play a vital role in our state’s political and policy landscape. Nonpartisan efforts to engage those most directly impacted by policy decisions garner better policy outcomes, improved client outcomes, and a more effective nonprofit sector in advocating on behalf of communities in need of a political voice.

Internship Description

Community Resource Center seeks two interns to join our vibrant team for the 2020/2021 academic year, and assist human service nonprofits in nonpartisan advocacy and voter engagement efforts through the Participation Project and the Root Causes Network. Ideal candidates will have 10-15 hours a week of availability for the months of August through May. Exact work schedule will be set with the Program Manger prior to starting, and all work hours will remain within CRC’s regular business hours 8:00 – 5:00 PM Monday-Friday. Start and end dates are flexible and all work is currently being conducted remotely. We are following CDC guidelines and will resume in office work when it is safe to do so.

Intern Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assist in outreach and recruitment efforts for advocacy and voter engagement efforts
• Assist in providing overall program support and coordination
• Operations support including administrative and communications efforts
• Assist in program design and implementation of Root Causes Network and training curriculum
• Regular check-ins with Program Manager, weekly plans, and quarterly evaluations
• Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• Basic understanding of the nonprofit sector and public policy advocacy or strong ability/interest to learn
• Basic understanding of, or interest in learning about, voter engagement tactics, including voter registration, voter education, and Get Out the Vote activities
• Basic understanding of, or strong interest in learning about how human service nonprofits engage in systems change work using an equity lens

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
•  Enthusiastic leadership and the ability to motivate others to act
•  Detail oriented with effective planning and time management skills
•  Ability to work independently with broad guidance, and self-manage
