What is SW RPD Youth Track?
Are you interested in learning more about fundraising for projects in your community or jump starting your career path in nonprofits? Whatever your ambitions may be, please join us at Rural Philanthropy Days (RPD) to learn about philanthropy and improve your fundraising skills! RPD is a statewide program that brings resources and education to rural nonprofits. It is designed and funded by local professionals from Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties. The “Youth Track” will take place on Thursday, June 12th and begins at 9:00 am at Pagosa Springs High School. There is a registration fee of $20. Your registration fee can be mailed in with your application. If you are applying online, you may pay your registration fee at that time with a credit card.
Capacity
We are accepting up to three high school (grades 9-12) students from each SW District school, so now is your chance to register. You may register online, or through the forms at the end of this packet. Please deliver completed forms to La Plata Youth Services at 2301 Main Avenue in Durango, or mail them to SWRPD, PO Box 1531, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.
Transportation
Transportation will be provided for you unless you decide to drive yourself or carpool. If you need transportation, please indicate this during registration.
Food
A networking lunch and snacks will be provided. Please indicate any dietary restrictions and food allergies during registration. During lunch you will have the opportunity to speak with other youth and adults about your interests and you may establish valuable connections and networks.

Building Health Relationships with Funders
This interactive course focuses on the successes and benefits of relationship building in nonprofit organizations. The health of an organization is deeply connected to its relationships, especially those with funders. A direct corollary is that “Funds Flow when Relationships Grow”. Join us as we explore how to develop, maintain, and grow these key relationships.
Grantwriting
Build your professional capacity to write competitive grants by gaining a deeper understanding of best practices for writing a grant application. In this session, participants will learn the critical components of the narrative sec- tion of a grant proposal, including telling your story, program goals and objectives, and tips for success.
How to be an Executive Director and Still Put Three Kids Through College
I spent 35 years, as a trained lawyer, working exclusively for state and national non-profit organizations. And put three kids through college and lived well. Most people and especially students believe that making more than a decent living and doing what you believe in are incompatible. My life’s work has proved that wrong, and I want to share strategies on how to live well and do good.
Marketing and Branding for Nonprofits
A look at effective tools, tactics, and strategy in a world that’s jamming your signal. Warning: tools, tactics, and strategy don’t work if your nonprofit doesn’t know its purpose, so we better talk about that first.
Obtaining Corporate Sponsors
We will discuss how to find the right corporate sponsor for the organization/event including how to approach large corporations. Then we will focus on how to create a custom sponsorship package for that company and how to sell it.
Volunteer Development
Strategies and tools are discussed for successful partnering with volunteers.From your Board to the youngest intern, the focus should be on assuring win-win relationships. Recruiting, managing, retaining, and rewarding your unpaid staff will be discussed.
